Sound Editors Guild Nominations

Post by Sabin »

Fewer nominees this year. Last year, they nominated seven and eight films in the "main" categories. The year before, seven and eight. Also, plenty of films with multiple nominations cross-category failed eventual Best Sound nominations including Nightmare Alley, The Matrix Resurrections, A Quiet Place II, The Midnight Sky, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

The most interesting thing is that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wasn't nominated for anything. I suspect three nominations for Everything Everywhere All At Once puts it in the running. After all, it is a loud film full of music. And as I write this, I wonder if we're underestimating The Batman for a handful of tech categories. Non-Zach Snyder Batman films tend to do reasonably well. Only Batman and Robin and The Dark Knight Rises failed any nominations and the astonishingly lightweight Batman Forever managed Best Cinematography and Sound nominations.

Maybe Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Top Gun: Maverick and either The Batman, All Quiet on the Western Front, Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio or maybe Tár?
