Could be because Weir has retired while Scott is still very active and maybe could swing a competitive Oscar soon. He has a film coming up about Napoleon with Joaquin Phoenix. He is also a prolific producer and could be given the Thalberg award.

Palcy and Warren are dismal choices, in spite of Warren's huge amount of nominations. I'm not hugely excited about Weir either, but he has four directing nominations without ever winning anything, so I suppose it's fair to give him an Honorary Award.

Agree on Ford. Also, Ridley Scott and Catherine Deneuve.

Never heard of Palcy before

Weir makes perfect sense; just the sort of director that gets an honorary late in life.

I don't think there's ever before been a songwriter chosen, has there? A composer or two (Morricone), but no one whose nominations have all been for best song?

Euzhan Palcy being honored for her career encompassing 3 films? Absurd to say the least.

You want to honor someone from "marginalized communities" how about seeking out far greater names from India, China, Korea, Mexico, Brazil.....the list is endless.

Weir and Fox are good choices.

Harrison Ford misses out yet again.

"Sorry, Diane. We just learned we overbooked the Honorary Awards this year, so you've been bumped to a future ceremony TBD. Have some swag?"
"What the hell?"
