New Late Night Shuffle?

Post by Sabin »

Two potential late night exits coming up (one real and the other speculative):

James Corden is apparently headed back to the U.K. in 2023. We'll see speculation range from Craig Ferguson returning (a good fit after Colbert and not unprecedented as Snyder did the same thing) to Jack Whitehall, Chelsea Handler, and Amber Ruffin.

There's another possibility coming up that is a little more speculation on my part but it got me thinking. Lorn Michaels has spoken of leaving SNL after his fiftieth year in (by 2025). There's a recent Howard Stern interview with Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, and Bill Hader, where Stern says point blank that Lorn Michaels sees something in Seth Meyers and is training him to be his successor. This isn't that crazy of a notion considering the number of hats he's worn. He was a cast member, the head writer of SNL for thirteen very good years (2006-2014), an Update host, a talented executive producer (Documentary Now), a talk show host whose already demonstrated talent in finding and launching new talent like Amber Ruffin. Seth Meyers is one of the few people who would make a lot of sense as well as generate real enthusiasm for taking over SNL. That would leave another opening as well. Amber Ruffin would make the most sense as his successor.
"How's the despair?"
