I haven’t yet seen TEoTF, so what I’m about to say may not apply to the merit of her win, but Chastain’s speech clarified to me why I’ve never warmed to her. It was so mechanical, so carefully calculated and uninspired. Nothing wrong, but so cautious. And the same can be said about her acting – it’s not bad, but never groundbreaking or even just exiting. I guess blasé is an appropriate term.
