I'd like to go on record and say for the last few weeks, I've heard nothing but handwringing about how they were ruining the show and it was a going to be awful, a total mess...

This is why I said I wanted to give it a chance. I have some issues with it. The way they began the show with Beyonce was disorienting. If Disney wanted to show off "We Don't Talk About Bruno" (fun but waste of time), they should've nominated it. But this is a good show.

TO BE CLEAR: I posted this before Army of the Dead won the "Fan Award" or whatever.

Because I recently "cut the cord" on cable, this will be the first Oscar show in years that I will not be able to watch live. I am looking to see if abc.com unlocks the telecast in a week, like they did last year. I did just catch Ariana DeBose's acceptance speech on YouTube.

I'll say this: one of the testaments to a good Oscar ceremony is how much they make it about the movies and can they do it in a way that doesn't seem off-putting, like too insider-y or fake. This ceremony seems enthusiastic about movies in a way that certainly is trending a bit populist but I think it's mostly threading the needle.

I tend to agree. The pre taped winners is working well. All nominees are still showed.

We are less than one hour into to show and almost half of the awards were already presented

So, sports stars to tribute to Bond. Couldn't they have gotten the living Bonds (Lazenby, Dalton, Brosnan, and Craig) to make appearance?

I'm not sure what the pre-taped wins are supposed to do other than look very choppily edited into the show. They are saving maybe 20 seconds by not having the winners amble up to the stage?

I was amused by the Regina Hall bit even if it was rather low humor.

Schumer could host it solo and score.

Timberlake and Pharrell did it but at least it was inside the auditorium.
