P.S. "No guts, no glory." My mindset entering this year's Oscar pool. The shorts & screenplays played with my mind. "The Long Goodbye" and "The Queen of Basketball" were favorites and Kenneth Branagh...well, he's been respected since Henry V. I went out on a limb projecting "Don't Look Up." The extended voting period caused me to overthink predictions.

Dune winning almost everything below belt. Don't you guys think its the sequel that will win big รข la The Return of the King?

And I don't get the prediction for Cruz - loved her in the film - but with Chastain and Stewart on the list I seriously doubt they will give Cruz a second Oscar.

(William Hurt obviously ought to be in there, but I feel like they might want to avoid the awkwardness of highlighting him too much, given where his personal reputation has gone)
03: Empty-handed Best Picture nominees: Don't Look Up, Licorice Pizza, and Nightmare Alley

I'm throwing away points, I suppose, but I feel like answering numbers 4 or 5 is buying into the Popular Movie Oscar idea (which is what these are, under another name), and I just don't feel right doing that

You may be on to something here, but in reverse. Poitier, the first "woke" hero of a bygone era goes first, while Dukakis, whose most famous role aside from her Oscar-winning one was the seminal transwoman she played in four Tales of the City miniseries from 1993-2019, the last frontier of the "woke" movement, goes last.
