Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner, though Sinatra was a supporting nominee (& winner) that year.
Good catch!

It's still incredible though. This is the first time in over four decades that best actor doesn't have a first time nominee.

This is Kristin Stewart's first nomination.

First quick thoughts:

- During the last few days I kept thinking about Lady Gaga missing best actress (much like music stars Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Cher for The Mask) and imagining the oscar bloggers melting down over it. I was just not brave enough to change my predictions;
- I always had my reservations about Villenueve getting in for best director, much like Nolan missed in other ocassions;
- HUGELY happy for Jessie Buckey;
- I never understood the hype around Passing and Ruth Negga. A movie that left me really cold and would be non existing if it weren't for Netflix;
- Javier Bardem and JK Simmons seem "checking boxes" type of nominations
- Licorice Pizza underperformed
- Nicolas Cage in Pig received the same treatment that Ethan Hawke
- Belfast gets 7 nominations but misses film Editing. Can it take best Picture?
- Which was the last best picture nominee to get nominated without best director, acting, screenplay or editing nomination? Nightmare Alley just did it.
- Only 1 newcomer in the 10 leading acting nominations. On the other hand, 8 out of 10 are newcomers under supporting nominations

Delighted about the nods for Cruz, Stewart, and Buckley.

Predicting her nomination was a lucky guess, but saying that her performance was the best in the film - that is something I know I was right about. Nice to see that the discerning Academy membership agreed, or at least agreed that she was as deserving as Ciarin Hinds.

Supporting actress was a category filled with riches this year. There are at least four others - Balfe, Dowd, Negga, Plimpton, whose nominations would have been as nice.

Dune for screenplay but no director is just wierd. Vicissitudes of their respective races and all that, but still wierd.

Loved these nominations overall. Loved the hosts, Tracee Ellis Smith and Leslie Jordan, the most animated nominations announcers since the whole rigmarole began. Cut-aways to guest announcers were well done, too.

Love that Nightmare Alley did as well as it did including its Best Picture nomination.

Loved that Judi Dench, against all odds, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Belfast.

Nice that Jessie Buckley was nominated against the odds in the same category.

Surprised that Kristen Stewart was nominated over Lady Gaga.

Happy to see Penelope Curz and Javier Bardem have become the first married couple since Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton to be nominated for acting in the same year, although Bardem's performance was not one of my favorites. Let's hope that unlike previous married couple nominees, Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, Rachel Roberts and Rex Harrison, and Taylor and Burton, that they stay together.

Former child actors Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons are another couple it's nice to see nominated in the same year, but as far as I know they aren't married.

Some real insanity here!

BEING THE RICARDOS doing well with actors but cannot beat NIGHTMARE ALLEY in Best Picture?
