93rd Oscars: Ceremony Discussion
Re: 93rd Oscars: Ceremony Discussion
These speeches all feel so long and unmemorable. One just blends into another. Like, this octopus speech only sounds different from all the others because they said “octopus” once or twice.

Dreadful Oscar show
Let’s get ready to confirm tomorrow that the Oscars register their worst ratings ever.

"We swear we are running on time" - voiceover. Does not feel like it.
Re: 93rd Oscars: Ceremony Discussion
Why are they so opposed to giving us any sense of what these films are about?
By just calling out names this is like my school district's Teacher of the Year banquet. (Which of course got cancelled last year when I got Teacher of the Year, although not because of the pandemic.)
Even by standards of "this was a really tough year to produce the Oscars for", this is shockingly bad.

Why was this done at a train station? With this set why couldn’t have been done at the Dolby?

Let us not forget that Steven Soderbergh also directed Bubble.
Good night.

No clips? Ugh, I hate that. Why?

In complete agreement with you. It’s 2am in my country. I’m teleworking so I don’t have to wake up as early as other Oscar nights but the thought of going to bed earlier has crossed my mind... for the first time in 29 years.Sabin wrote:They didn’t show us the makeup or the costumes. This is just insider baseball. It’s absolutely contemptuous of anyone who isn’t in the industry, and probably the closest approximation to the first Academy Awards. A crony-ish dinner where names are read.
This is the first time in my life I’ve ever considered just turning it off.

We're only 45 minutes in and we've gotten 6 categories. At this rate, to cover the remaining 17, it will take 2.83 45-minute segments, or 127.5 minutes. That would put it at 172.5, which is less than 3 hours, so give or take a montage/presentation, we'd be shorter than many prior years.

It will certainly feel like a five hour show. No clips makes it pretty boringdws1982 wrote:This is going to be a five hour show at this rate.
I know Hollywood people make their own schedule, but some of us have to be at work by 7:30 in the morning.
