Pinocchio

The highly acclaimed remake of Pinocchio from Matteo Garrone (Gomorrah), said to be del Toro-esque, has just grabbed a Christmas Day release in the U.S. It will be the English language version that was first shown in the U.K. in August.
Roberto Benigni, who was severely ridiculed for his 2002 portrayal of the puppet who wants to be a real boy, plays Geppetto opposite nine-year-old Federico Ielapi in the title role. The trailer looks really good. Benigni could conceivably be a late entrant in the still up-for-grabs supporting actor contest with the film possibly dominating the technical awards.
