I'm curious why you say you don't know if you will ever see Uncut Gems. It's a very good film and Sandler gave a wonderful performance.

And yes his speech was hilarious.

Fun trivia: The Farewell is actually the first film in over 30 years to win Best Feature at the Independent Spirits that does not have any Oscar nominations. 1987's River's Edge was the last one.

I don't know how many of you watched this, but I did.

It was probably the most satisfying of all the awards shows so far this year. Adam Sandler and Lulu Wang (twice) delivered the best acceptance speeches.

Sandler was hilarious. I haven't seen his film, and don't know if I ever will, so I don't know whether I'd agree that he deserved to win, but I'm glad he did just to be able hear that speech.

I am not the biggest fan of The Farewell. Like Shuzhen Chao's initial reaction to the script, I still don't see what the big deal is, but I'm glad it won just to see Wang accept, first for Zhao, and then for herself.

Stuck in China due to the coronavirus, Wang accepted for the Supporting Female winner. It was worth it just to watch the changing expressions on Jennifer Lopez's face during her speech, scowling when the camera caught her and then quickly putting on a false smile when she knew she was being watched.

Wang's acceptance speech for Best Feature was perfect, both slamming the complaints about women not being recognized for their work when the real complaint should be about the people with the purse strings not financing women who have the ideas but not the money and then thanking her own five producers.
