My vote is with Big Magailla - I like his compromise approach - can't wait for the cinematography polls!

I don't like going backwards. What I suggested was a compromise.

My thinking is that if we conduct one poll per week starting next Wednesday that should be enough time for people to catch up. It's not as if films from 1967 to 1997 are that difficult to find. With rare exception, those that are missing probably aren't worth worrying about.

Anyone who has seen four of the five nominees should be able to vote for one of the four subject to a vote change later if they find that the obscure fifth nominee is something they actually like more.

I like it.

I am happy to play along with whatever people decide, but to speak up for those of us who don't have as many years of Oscar history under our belts as you two, when I look over the slates beginning in '67 for about the next thirty years, there's about a nominee or two I'm missing in every race.

I would try my best to catch up, but if we started with the most recent year and worked backward, I would be able to start catching up on those races now, while we discussed the last twenty years, for which I assume many more of us are 100% complete. Doesn't it seem like this approach would foster MORE discussion?

I like this idea, especially because it is also going to include some different movies we haven't talked to death about yet!

Most of those years in the late 30s/early 40s are going to be ridiculous to discuss -- 20 or so often-obscure nominees, and lengthy odds most of us have seen them anywhere but on TV. Of course, that's true for many tech categories in that era.

But, sure, cinematography's as good as anything to cover, now that the glamour categories have been depleted.

I am totally fine with whatever, but Cinematography definitely seems like a category that would provoke interesting discussion.

Would be good to start with the most recent years again, so more people will have the option to participate.

Don't remember but it seems a really good choice.
