I didn't see that. Please provide a link.
Correction: I seem to have misremembered. It's discussed in the original link, but it's unclear whether they prevailed or Netflix talked them out of it.

"Sacha Baron Cohen and Eddie Redmayne’s work in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7” was also discussed to be moved from supporting to lead classifications but it’s not clear if the Netflix featured ultimately prevailed."

I agree with this. Candice Bergen was the standout from the film. Meryl was great, but I think they’ll only nominate her for The Prom.

Lucas Hedges was not good in Let Them All Talk.

Just because the Globes have ruled Hamilton eligible in the Comedy or Musical category instead of the TV category doesn't mean they're going to vote for it even though the Comedy or Musical slate is pretty thin this year.

They have already declared Sacha Baron Cohen lead in Trial of the Chicago 7 so he isn't getting a supporting actor nod for that.

I still say it's more likely the four stars of One Night in Miami will be ruled leads rather than supporting players, once they make up their minds, which means that Leslie Odom Jr. could find himself outside the Globe bubble.

Two for Meryl Streep, but none for Candice Bergen? Doesn't seem right.

Oh god, Hamilton is being considered a film now? That’s absurd.

I’m sick of seeing LMM literally everywhere.

Is French Exit not competing? I'm pretty sure it's opening within the window.

And yes, I know that Davis could be competing in the same category. But if she's not, then Bakalova has a pretty good chance at winning.

The Globes more frequently push borderline contenders to lead than support so the Miami men could all end up competing in lead. That film has a huge cast. Maybe they want to consider some of the other players like Beau Bridges or Jeremy Pope in support. And if Odom and Pope sing as Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson, maybe they'll want to consider it a musical, too. Just kidding with the last one!

The only inconsistency seems to be allowing Saoirse Ronan to remain in support for Ammonite.

Well...

- Promising Young Woman being moved to Drama is pretty foolish. Carey Mulligan could've possibly won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical even if Viola Davis was moved to the same category.

- I initially thought Maria Bakalova being pushed to lead was equally foolish but if Viola Davis isn't in the same category, she might have a clear ride to victory. Michelle Pfeiffer does not seem like she is picking up momentum for French Exit at all.

- If Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is a Comedy or Musical but Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born are Dramas, then I just don't even know anymore.

- It looks like Minari will be winning best Foreign-Language Film. Not a bad move for them.

- Hamilton could easily end up a nomination leader with some combination of nominations for Best Comedy or Musical Film, Actor (Miranda), Actor (Odom, Jr.), Supporting Actor (Groff), Supporting Actress (Gosberry), and Supporting Actress (Soo).

Golden Globe Awards

Post by anonymous1980 »

Golden Globe placement news.

- Promising Young Woman was ruled as a Drama.

- Helena Zengel and Maria Bakalova will compete in the LEAD categories in Drama and Comedy respectively.

- Hamilton will compete in the Comedy/Musical FILM categories. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odom Jr. will be in Lead. Everyone else is Supporting.

- It's not yet final but Ma Rainey's Black Bottom might also go Comedy/Musical.

- The men of One Night in Miami will not be split up in Lead and Supporting. All four submitted names (Kingsley Ben-Adair, Leslie Odom Jr., Aldis Hodge and Eli Goree) will compete in the same category. It hasn't been decided if it's Lead or Supporting.

I will post my predictions soon.
