Historically, the Globes aren't great with Director (Julian Schnabel won last year). And they weren't the first group to give the award to Cameron back in 1997, the Broadcast Critics did, so there isn't really a good precedent that I can think of.

Rather astounding. I'm going to have to go back and look at the Best Director history for the Globes...this is rather surprising...I mean, I expected Reitman or Tarantino instead of Cameron had Bigelow not won...
