Yeah, I was gonna say, I never left exactly, but I do find myself with much less "me" Internet time than I used to have back in my college days. *sigh*

I was an avid poster this time of year one year ago while I was going through a bunch of oscar nominated films I wanted to see (and my list still goes on), but I had profound personal changes in my life recently (got divorced) that prevented me of coming here more often, although I still check the board on a daily basis.

Check the e-mail addresses of the "new" members - they are mostly spammers for on-line pharmacies and sex sites.

On the other hand I've noticed a number "guests" attempting to post - wonder why they don't "join".

I agree with what Sonic says about making new members feel welcome.

I've noticed many new members logging in but never post. Find that odd.

That said, you can't lose multiple regular posters (throw Sonic in, as well) without things feeling quieter.
I'm still here. Not as often, but I haven't gone anywhere. I just don't have the time for posting that I used to.

I've noticed that two new posters joined and submitted messages this past month, but haven't done so since their initial posts. Perhaps a "welcome to our board" response would encourage them to stay and participate?

And yes, it is the dog-days of summer...

Real advertising costs money, so I won't be able to do that. But that's why I suggested talking to people at other sites...

I know my approval methods are restrictive (but I've had problems with bots and spammers in the past and I just can't leave things open like that anymore), but really, all they have to do is send me a PM and I'll get them added. Or, if they don't know how to do that, you guys can send me their names. It doesn't take long to approve, I just have to have the time when I get the message.

We're post-Oscars right now. Things are going to quiet. Eric and Philip will be back come Oscar time.

I have a suggestion. Why don't we promote this forum a little bit online right now and draw some people in. Doubtlessly some will stick and some will get tired and leave. By the time the summer's over and fall's Oscar prognostication starts up, we can reign in our advertising and things will return to normal but with a few new regulars?

For those of you who do not have a separate CinemaSight bookmark, if you click on the CinemaSight button at the top right it will now take you to the main CinemaSight page.

We're not just competing with other sites these days, we are competing with Facebook, Twitter iPhones, iPads and so many other things that weren't around before.

It's not like people aren't coming here. I'm constantly seeing members as well as "guests" reading comments. Maybe they're tired from posting on Facebook and Twitter as well as from their daily storms and strife.

It's such a pity that many of the old regulars decided to either throw hissy fits and dissapeared or simply went off silently because they got offended. Wish they would just chill and come back.

Who? There hasn't been any fight here recently.

One can try all kinds of solutions, Oscar Guy, and some may even work for a while, but in the end, let's face it, the Oscars are a very limited field, and the way they are discussed here - a very detailed, profound and, let me say it, intelligent way - makes them even more limited.

The Sandra Bullock or Julia Roberts fans can get here to check their favorite stars' chances - if and when they are nominated - but the prospect of discussing Colette Marchand or Hermione Baddeley will send them away soon. Plus, this time of the year has never been very active here.
