How old are these "kids" that have been fawning over Bening for "decades"?

A nomination maybe, but Mulligan and Stone are the ones getting the best reviews thus far. Lanthimos got an 8-minute standing ovation in Venice presumably because of the performance he got from Stone.

I'm already dismissing that notion. As a category, Best Actress isn't necessarily becoming more affixed to Best Picture but it seems like voters generally take the opportunity to award an actress for a minor-ish film (Renee Zellweger, Jessica Chastain) when a central role in a Best Picture heavy (nominee or winner) isn't available. That's pretty much why Glenn Close lost for The Wife, right? And considering that we now have Carey Mulligan for Maestro and Emma Stone for Poor Things, I think Annette Bening will be lucky to get a nomination.

EDIT: Best Actress seems pretty packed right now, doesn't it? Sandra Huller, Carey Mulligan, and Emma Stone look like very good bets along with Bening, Lee, Mirren, Portman, and Robbie with Fantasia Barrino yet unseen for The Color Purple among whatever else is unseen.

This is the only prime-critic review for the film, which screened yesterday at Telluride; apparently many gave other films higher priority. The kids at AwardsWorthy -- who've been fawning over Bening for decades -- are ready to accept this one reaction as gospel, and have her winning the statue at last. This review is, no question, enthusiastic. But 'm going to need to se it replicated multiple times before committing to that notion.
