Is it possible that a film can win two awards?

IIRC, if the jury wants to do that, they would have to ask permission from the head of the festival and make their case why and that person will decide on it.

I think the Palme winner can't get an additional award, but acting + screenplay, for instance, is possible.

Floating-around buzz (which is often accurate) says Ceylan’s About Dry Grasses has won "a big prize" (though maybe not the Palme), and Ken Loach has departed, so likely nothing for him.

Cannot imagine anything more boring than another dreary-sounding Ken Loach joint winning a major prize, but he's won that particular prize three times already, so it wouldn't surprise me. And he's been crowing about how it would be his final film (although of course now he's been backtracking in press today) for awhile, so there may be a desire to reward him one last time.

Edit: Even though it got largely negative reviews, Club Zero is produced by Philippe Bober, who has produced Ostlund's films for the past decade, so I would expect an award for it. Also Jessica Hausner is reportedly still in town.

The Variety article is less authoritative, since it was published Monday (my first clue was when he mentioned May December not yet having screened).

I'm actually surprised both have Haynes' film so far up on the list; my impression had been that people were mostly unenthusiastic.

I think the biggest handicap Anatomy of Fall might have as far as the Palme is a desire to honor Huller as best actress.

I do agree Anatomy and Zone of Interest seem to be the critical/popular favorites, but we've seen many times that Cannes juries can be deaf to such consensus.

Victor Erice and Lisandro Alonso have both made statements about Thierry Fremaux somewhat dishonestly screwing their films out of competition spots. Erice, who hasn't made a film in over thirty years, didn't attend the premiere, and had been offered competition spots at other festivals but held off while waiting to hear back from Cannes and didn't find out it wouldn't be in competition until the press conference announcing the lineups. Maybe not coincidentally, both films are in Spanish, and outside of big names like Almodovar, Cannes has not been super-friendly to Spanish-language films over the past several years.

May/December has been picked up by Netflix; Anatomy of a Fall has been picked up by NEON.
