Best Cinematography

I was 50/50 on CODA or The Power of the Dog in Picture and Adapted Screenplay when I did my predictions for the contest, but this was when I knew I leaned the wrong way and The Power of the Dog was done.

It could've had a path to Best Picture without this award, but all of the acting awards, including Supporting Actor where it had its best shot, started breaking in another direction, and it became a real question of what award(s) Dog could pull in to support a Best Picture win. Director/Picture only never seemed like a viable combo, and Screenplay was always on the table (but it was never going to win without it), but going down ballot, there were just so few places where it seemed likely to win. It's not the type of film that wins Editing anymore, it's not the type that wins Sound or Production Design (although I support those nominations). That score is not the type that wins, and as much as I don't support the Zimmer win, I really would not have supported a Dog win in that category. (I don't think it works all that well within the film, and on its own, if I wanted to listen to ambient music, I would just...not.)
