First Winner Predictions
Re: First Winner Predictions
1917 will win best picture. As long as best foreign/international film exists as a consolation prize, I can't see a foreign-language film winning best picture. Bong could very likely win best director, however. (Basically, a Roma repeat.) Fairly or unfairly, I think many look at 1917 as Roger Deakins's achievement, not Sam Mendes's.

First Winner Predictions
Comments when applicable:
Best Picture: Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood
(Too early to tell but despite an editing nomination, it seems like the front-runner at this point. No point in going out on a limb for The Irishman, Parasite, or 1917 when it's OUATIH is probably the most front-runner to win the PGA, DGA, SAG, and BAFTA)
Best Director: Sam Mendes, 1917
(Impossible to say at this moment. Four of the nominees could win, discounting Phillips. 5/7 past Oscars split this award. Scorsese's front-runner status feels like Spielberg for Lincoln. I could see Bong, Mendes, or Tarantino winning for different reasons but 1917 *feels* the most like a victory a la Gravity and The Revenant)
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, Joker
Best Actress: Renee Zellweger, Judy
Best Supporting Actor: Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Best Supporting Actress: Laura Dern, Marriage Story
Best Original Screenplay: Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood
Best Adapted Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit
(I think it's going to be close between Jojo Rabbit and Little Women. Ironically, Gerwig might have a better chance of winning an Oscar for Little Women than she ever did for Lady Bird.)
Best Original Score: Joker
(One of the tightest categories of the night. Could be 1917)
Best Original Song: “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” (Rocketman)
Best Foreign-Language Film: Parasite
Best Animated Film: Toy Story 4
Best Documentary Film: For Sama
Best Cinematography: 1917
Best Film Editing: Ford v Ferrari
(Most editing wins. Could be Parasite.)
Best Production Design: Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood
(Such a weird choice.)
Best Costume Design: Little Women
(I suppose it could be Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood as well)
Best Makeup: Bombshell
Best Sound Mixing: 1917
Best Sound Editing: 1917
Best Visual Effects: The Lion King
(A fourway race between 1917, Avengers: Endgame, The Irishman, and The Lion King)
