Re: Which Nominees Have You Seen?
I think this is a really strong documentary lineup. Faces, Places, Abacus, and Strong Island would all be on my Top 5 documentaries of the year list. Last Men in Aleppo is powerful, but I thought City of Ghosts was much more fascinating. Icarus is not my type of film at all, but it is fine for what it is. I wanted Unrest to take that slot.
I have no idea what takes this prize. Faces, Places may be my favorite film of the year, but it feels so different from what the Academy nominates (I'm shocked it was even nominated). I think Abacus is a really well-structured film, and it would finally give Steve James the Oscar he has never won, but Strong Island has the narrative in and out of the film that could propel it. It is well-worth checking out if you get the chance.

That would be right. I'm really have to give some serious consideration to subscribing to Netflix sometime in the near future. The growing list of films I'm missing is becoming annoying. Not to mention that I really want to see Mindhunter.criddic3 wrote:I could be mistaken, but I believe Strong island is on Netflix.Precious Doll wrote:What did you think of them?FilmFan720 wrote:My list of films I need to see is very long (although I just got a bunch of Spirit Awards screeners that will help), but I've actually seen all 5 documentary nominees already!
I've only seen the Abacus & Faces, Places. If Strong Island happens to turn up locally I'll watch it but I must admit I have little interest in the other two films.

Nominees I have seen:
Dunkirk
Icarus
Yeah, that's all. No wonder I don't post a lot anymore. I'll try and see at least a few more before the awards are presented.

Which Nominees Have You Seen?
Apologies if this could be moved to a more relevant thread, but I recall threads like these from past years. I think usually it's a list of ones you HAVEN'T seen yet, but here is my list of what I have seen, as of Oscar nomination morning:
Dunkirk
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Baby Driver
I, Tonya
Beauty and the Beast
Coco
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2
Logan
I have some work to do.
