I actually kind of like this group. They're mostly Oscar-predictors, but unlike so many of the others, they'll throw in some refreshingly offbeat choices on occasion that make me think they're actually doing a bit of their own thinking.
Usually, my tastes line up fairly well with the KC Critics (must be something in the water), but this... I never expected them to line up with the McQueen film. The last time they agreed with Oscar on Best Picture was Slumdog and the last time before then was Million Dollar Baby then Return of the King then American Beauty.
With The Master, The Descendants, The Social Network, and Up in the Air being their last winners, I expected more of a win for Nebraska - they've given Best Picture to, as I said, The Descendants, but also About Schmidt.
I'm shocked that a town as conservative as Kansas City went with such a liberal film.
