Re: Best Supporting Actor
Best acceptance speech of the night!
Re: Best Supporting Actor
Interesting to note though is how conceptually younger being an octogenarian is nowadays than it was 36 years ago – Burns was OLD, Plummer is distinguishably mature.OscarGuy wrote:He's also now passed George Burns as oldest Oscar winner...
Re: Best Supporting Actor
I wasn't a fan of the movie but its hard to argue with an Oscar for Plummer. And that was a hell of a speech, best I recall in some years - how graceful, classy and funny.
Re: Best Supporting Actor
Glad Plummer won. Now I hope the Academy gives von Sydow the honorary award next year before it's too late.

Re: Best Supporting Actor
The second half of the speech was almost a carbon copy of his Spirit Awards speech, but the beginning was nice. He's also now passed George Burns as oldest Oscar winner...

Lovely speech, deserving winner. Though I have to say, the sheer dignity demonstrated by von Sydow in that clip is almost enough to get me watching the Daldry flick.

So much for his on-set difficulty being an obstacle for voters.

Now THAT is an Oscar speech.
He was better in Dragon Tattoo though.

Re: Best Supporting Actor
Yay! A great performance and a lovely film. Hopefully more people will check it out on DVD.

Both of the Von Trapp parents finally have Oscars. A well deserved win.
