Re: Oscar Predictions at Year End
Proving once again I am terrible at predicting, I technically only got one category perfect, in that my top nine listed for best picture were the nine nominated. My worst category, Best Song; although I did have that only two songs would be nominated on my NGNG.

I don't think it's Best Picture worthy either but I wouldn't be mad if they nominated Melissa McCarthy. She's wonderful.rolotomasi99 wrote:Yes, and THE WEDDING SINGER is the best Adam Sandler/Happy Madison production, but it is still not Best Picture worthy.anonymous1980 wrote:Not me. I'm amazed at the awards mileage the film is getting. But then what do I know about films today? I'm equally amazed that a boring film like Moneyball is getting so much award attention, including for Brad Pitt's coma inducing performance

Re: Oscar Predictions at Year End
I think the reason Bridesmaids is getting so much attention is that they want to tell the makers of The Hangover they don't know what comedy is...

Yes it's an 'eat ''shit'' and die' scenario, Sonic !! LolSonic Youth wrote:I've got to see Bridesmaids already. I feel like I'm missing out on some significant conversations.
And I'll force myself to love it, too. Just to spite the rest of you.
I'm amazed at the awards mileage the film is getting. But then what do I know about films today? I'm equally amazed that a boring film like Moneyball is getting so much award attention, including for Brad Pitt's coma inducing performance

Not me. I liked Bridesmaids just fine. I think it's one of the better Judd Apatow productions.Sonic Youth wrote:I've got to see Bridesmaids already. I feel like I'm missing out on some significant conversations.

Re: Oscar Predictions at Year End
Today's comedy standards are awfully low.
I honestly have no clue why audiences find this tripe worth seeing let alone remembering with such fondness.
It's not the raunchiness. Raunchy can be handled with finesse as in films like Horrible Bosses; Our Idiot Brother and even Change-Up. What these films had, though, were real actors, not mugging TV skit personalities. That's all this thing was, a series of skits, none of them particularly funny. So what that it was written by a woman? Women can be just as bad writers as men.

That's why I said it was by today's standards.
