I have confirmed that we have done both 1933 and 1996. I've added the tallies for 1996 to my totals.

I also discovered I had inadvertently submitted "God Give Me Strength" from Grace of My Heart for Best Song of 1995 when it was, in fact, a 1996 eligible entry and had already been included in our tallies for that year. I removed all references to it from 1995.

I know I'm probably dreaming on those last 3 or 4, but I bet we could put together very strong slates going back that far, even if it might take three rounds as some participants drop out. It would bring us back to the year MGM was founded, which as we know ultimately led to the founding of the Oscars.

At the very least I hope we do separate rounds for 1928 and 1927 (both such strong years in Hollywood and Europe) and do a combined round for the pre-Oscar era. Or perhaps two: one for 1920-1926 and one for the pre-1920s period...

Oh, and Magilla, I like your ideas for what to do after the cycle is complete.
I think we have also done 1933.

Yes separate years for both 1927 & 1928 sounds good. Ditto the 1920-26 & Pre-1920.

We should vote on 1924-1926. If we don't get at least five potential contributors for those years individually, maybe we can do one pre-1927 listing to include the years from 1920-1926.

As soon as Oscar Guy makes his selections known I will amend the 1995 results. Same goes for rudeboy if he wishes to participate.

Thanks Eric. I'm glad we see eye to eye on Lee Evans' amazing performance in Funny Bones.

Magilla, had we gone to a third round (which, overall, I think would've been excessive, although I do miss Oscar Guy's voice as I'm sure he would've pushed Babe into some more deserving categories) I don't think I'd have put Showgirls in too many more categories. Probably just art direction, although possibly screenplay & costume design as well. I might've added Safe to Best Picture though. Thank goodness I haven't seen Waterworld, huh?

We did indeed do 1996 already; it was in early December of last year. By my reckoning, we only have 2010, 2009, 2008, 1986, 1968, 1964, 1947, 1946, 1933, 1928, 1927, 1926, 1925, and 1924 to go.

And here I thought with Eric abstaining, we wouldn't be subjected to all those votes for Showgirls. :;):

Bravo to rain Bard for elevating the game in most years, but I can't say this year represented his finest contributions. On the other hand, I don't think it represents the best of any of us. There just wasn't that much to choose from.

I'll have to wade through the queue to double-check, but if we did do 1996, I didn't save the tallies.

I was thinking that when we finish this game we should do something with the results. One thing we might want to do is vote on the selections mentioned to make our overall top selections.

We could do it by open or closed ballot or we could take turns selecting no more than ten in each category and putting them up in a poll for the entire board to vote on.

Anyone like any of these ideas or have others they would like to suggest?

Lol.

I don't know why I get the feeling that we have already done 1996.

The tallies have been posted for 1995.

Despite the egregious omission of Emma Thompson's name among leading actresses, Sense and Sensibility has racked up the most mentions, a total of 13.

It's followed by Se7en with 10; Dead Man with 9; Dead Man Walking, Rob Roy and Twelve Monkeys with 8 each; La Ceremonie, Showgirls, The Horseman on the Roof and Toy Story with 7 each; Nixon, Richard III, Safe and Underground with 6 each and Dolores Claiborne, Nelly and Monsieur Arnaud, The Bridges of Madison County and The City of Lost Children with 5 each.

In all, there was a total of 225 votes cast for 69 films.

I'm not sure Margaret's Museum actually had a theatrical run in 1995. It won a slew of Canadian Film Awards (Genies) based on its showing at the Toronto Film Festival, but I don't think it was released theatrically in Canada until later. It was a Canadian-UK co-production that wasn't shown in the U.K. until 1997. It wasn't shown in the U.S., outside of a few film festivals either, until 1997, despite what the IMDb. says. Otherwise I would have included it in a number of categories.

Since we haven't done 1996 yet, maybe I can include it when we do.

Oops! I made a mistake. A Man of No Importance was released in 1994. My pick for best actor is Anthony Hopkins-Nixon
