They have now announced that Norah Jones will sing "Everybody Needs a Best Friend," from Ted

In addition to the return of live performances of the nominated songs there will be a segment on the musicals of the last ten years highlighting Chicago; Dreamgirls and Les Miserables.

Adele's tune is on par with the best, a little more subdued than most recent ones, but definitely more representative of the best work than the worst.

I wonder if all this publicity over Adele might kill her chances for a win? What about all of the other performers and writers of songs this year? They won't get nearly the attention, which might go over poorly with voters who think this latest stunt is a veiled attempt to nab her the trophy. It is something akin to endorsement even if only for ratings.

I hope not, the song was as unmemorable as have all the Bond theme songs for over 20 years.
I'm a very big fan of Bond movies. Although not the level of a Shirley Bassey theme, I think Adele's song is one of the best ever.

But Norah Jones sang the song. So even though McFarlane will be there to accept should he win, it won't be him performing it.

I'm glad they changed the rule. I mean, last year was ridiculous with only two nominees! There were a handful of solid efforts they could have nominated but didn't. What are they looking for, perfection? We don't have people writing at the level of "Over the Rainbow" or "All the Way" for movies anymore. So they shouldn't be quite that picky.

I think we should have a topic

Apparently performances for Best original Song are back, as Adele was just confirmed as a performer on the show
