I had a sinking feeling this would happen because a.) the last time a film won Best Visual Effects in its only nomination was back in 1993 when Death Becomes Her won. and b.) the last time a non-Best Picture nominee beat a Best Picture nominee in this category was in 1971 when Tora! Tora! Tora! beat Patton.

So, yeah. I should've done a last minute switch!

Okay, assuming Hugo doesn't pull a Pianist tonight, and assuming The Artist wins all the remaining awards it's expected to win (Film, Director, Actor and Score)... then Hugo and The Artist may end up tying tonight w/ number of wins.
