Not sure where else to put this:

http://www.awardsdaily.com/2011....horizon

The above link is to a video highlighting the amazing cinematography for TRUE GRIT. Even though I was well aware of how great the cinematography was when watching the film, this video does a great job of reminding me of not just how good the film looked but how overdue Deakins is. I usually dislike the whole "overdue" sentiment because it leads to unworthy Oscar wins, but this time giving the Oscar to someone as overdue to Deakins will rectify the past losses and be a worthy Oscar win.

I really hope THE KING'S SPEECH does not pull some ridiculous SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE near sweep and take the cinematography award from TRUE GRIT. That would really piss me off.

By turnaround time, I meant from book to option rights to filmed to release, not the running time (which was two hours, by the way).
What I meant was do you know the time in months from option rights to release?

The way I see it, with Best Picture coming down to The Social Network and The King's Speech, this is literally a battle of old vs. new. On the old side, you have an uplifting, elegantly made costume/history piece which generally dominated these awards back in the day. On the new side, you have a swiftly made, technically stunning piece of modern history that was made in such a quick manner (from movie rights to theatrical release, the turnaround time was stunning). So, will the Academy continue to show their praise to new generations or will they continue with their old trends of voting for their heyday material? For now, I'm giving the edge to The Social Network because, if the nominations are any indication, the Academy is ready to show admiration to some younger blood.

Lots of years, these are better than my final predictions.

Picture - The King's Speech
(But maybe: The Social Network)

Director - David Fincher
(In the bag)

Actor - Colin Firth
(In the bag)

Actress - Annette Bening
(But maybe: Natalie Portman)

Supporting Actor - Christian Bale
(But maybe: Geoffrey Rush)

Supporting Actress - Hailee Steinfield
(But maybe: Melissa Leo or Amy Adams)

Original Screenplay - The King's Speech
(But maybe: The Kids Are All Right; but probably in the bag)

Adapted Screenplay - The Social Network
(In the bag)

Cinematography - True Grit
(But maybe: Inception)

Editing - The Social Network
(But maybe: Any of the other four; I thought Inception would take this easily, so I don't have a clue now)

Art Direction - Inception
(But maybe: The King's Speech)

Costume Design - The King's Speech
(But maybe: I don't know? Nothing in this category, even The King's Speech, seems like a sure-shot contender)

Sound Mixing - Inception
(But maybe: True Grit)

Sound Editing - Inception
(But maybe: True Grit)

Makeup - The Way Back
(But maybe: Barney's Version; Seems like the Branch boxed out Alice In Wonderland the way they did Sweeney Todd a few years ago)

Visual Effects - Inception
(In the bag)

Score - The King's Speech
(But maybe: The Social Network)

Song - "We Belong Together"
(But maybe: "If I Rise")

Cartoon - Toy Story 3
(In the bag)

Documentary - Restrepo
(But maybe: Inside Job)

Foreign Film - In A Better World
(But maybe: Outside the Law)
