See? Berlusconi is worse than Bush, as I always knew.

At least in the U.S., George W. Bush only made a mockery of our nation's government and left our culture alone.

Frankly, I'm a bit surprised Milk of Sorrow and Samson and Delilah got in. I've seen both films and though I liked them a lot, I'd never thought those films would place high in the Academy.

:))))

Ok, but we got a Golden Globe nomination! ;)

I'm sure that the Israeli movie is better. But in Italy, as always, this makes for front page news and plenty of sorrow and shock (I doubt that in the same situation the French would care at all). We consider the Oscars like something familiar, like a game we MUST play in, maybe because in the past we were often part of it. Anyway, as Baaria was partly produced by Berlusconi's company, and he himself personally endorsed it at the Venice festival (where it didnt win any award, confirming that Venice is becoming a more and more reliable Oscar precursor, and, I'm afraid, intentionally so), I'm not among those who are crying today.

Israel - 1, Italy – nil. Second year running!

Nice surprise – I admit I didn't think they'd get Ajami.

The White Ribbon wins in the end. (Future tense?)
