Tom Cruise got his next mission and he chose to accept it.

Reprising his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt, Cruise has signed on to battle bad guys again in "Mission: Impossible IV," it was reported yesterday.

The action flick is set to open Memorial Day weekend next year, going head-to-head with Warner Bros.' "Hangover" sequel and the second weekend of Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" according to Variety.

Cruise and "Mission: Impossible III" director J.J. Abrams agreed to produce a fourth movie in the franchise some time ago, but it was unclear if Cruise would star again.

Abrams will stick to producing this time, with the search on for a director to shoot the new installment.

The announcement also suggests Paramount has managed to repair its relationship with Cruise after cutting the star loose from a long-term development deal in 2006.

The three previous "Mission: Impossible" films have generated combined worldwide grosses of $1.4 billion for Paramount, including nearly $400 million for the third.

"Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to re-launch this legendary franchise," said Paramount Pictures Chairman Brad Grey.

Cruise appears on screen next with co-star Cameron Diaz July 2 in Fox's action comedy "Knight and Day."
