I just hope Olivia Colman wins for The Crown. And not Emma Corrin.

The Emmys are so boring now. Everyone's prediction lists are mostly the same, and they'll mostly be right too.

Can't believe I'm longing for the chaos of the days when James Spader would win over James Gandolfini and Hugh Laurie, but here we are.

I can't even remember Foy's guest appearance. Why did she return and what did she do to win her second Emmy?

Ok I just ran that episode on Netflix. A flashback to 1947 where Foy, as the Queen, speaks to her subjects on radio from Cape Town. She is seen speaking the opening words of the speech and then the camera moves onto her subjects all over the world. Yes, a bullshit win for appearing on screen for literally half a minute.

Creative Arts Emmy winners.

The Queen's Gambit has 9 awards so far. The record for most wins is 13 (held by John Adams). If it at least 5 out of the 6 awards it's up for on the main show, it will break that record.

P.S. Claire Foy winning for The Crown is a bullshit win. And I love The Crown.

So many categories now. Found Julie Andrews, John Travolta and Sigourney Weaver on the list as well.

Don Cheadle was nominated for Guest Actor appearing in Falcon and the Winter Soldier for a little over 90 seconds. Not quite Ellen Burstyn territory but as close as you can get.

Interesting. I've basically abandonned the show because it was very meh, but I really liked Heller from what I saw.

I'm not sure what the point of expanding the nominees in the categories is if the voters still only want to watch about four shows.

This was not a good year for television. Pretty average set of nominees.

Kathleen Turner was snubbed for The Kominski Method.

The only real interesting race is Joy vs Winslet for limited series actress.

Here's the complete list.

Some random thoughts:

- Girls5Eva was robbed!

- Small Axe is snubbed all around.

- Bo Burnham got SIX nominations. I *think* that's a record but I'm not sure. (EDIT: It's not. Louis CK still has the record with 8 nominations in one year)

- Netflix has more Emmy nominations than all 4 broadcast networks plus PBS *combined*.

I knew they would go for Ted Lasso but I didn't think they'd nominate almost the entire cast.

Jason Sudekis for Actor and Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham for Supporting Actress seemed like good bets, but they nominated Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), Nick Mohammed (Nate the Kit Man/"Nate the Great"), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). The only person they didn't nominate that they could've was Phil Dunster as the brash, up-and-comer Jamie Tartt. I has three nominations for Best Directing in (including Zach Braff for "Biscuits") and two nominations for Best Writing, including the Pilot, which I would imagine it would win for, although "Make Rebecca Great Again" was a season highpoint.

If I had to guess...

Outstanding Comedy Series: Ted Lasso
(unless they fall late-in-the-game for Hacks)

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Jason Sudeikis, Ted Lasso
(hard to imagine him losing)

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Jean Smart, Hacks
(Cuoco has a chance but the industry loves the late-arriving Hacks)

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Paul Reiser, The Kominsky Method
(haven't seen this season, but I could see voters belatedly tossing one to Paul Reiser for his career. He never really managed to follow up Mad About You with anything meaningful but the show ran eight seasons, never winning anything while his his more industry-beloved co-star won four consecutive years. If not him, who?)

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Hannah Waddington, Ted Lasso
(Although Juno Temple or Hannah Einbinder could win)

Outstanding Writing & Directing in a Comedy Series: Ted Lasso

For the Emmys, it's all about performance. I assume they will submit themselves in the category they choose whenever they choose and the article does suggest that the rules were already in place to allow nonbinary to submit in whichever category they prefer.

What I understood the article to say is that if a person who considers themselves non-binary is nominated for an acting Emmy and they win, they can have their Emmy inscribed as Best Performer rather than Best Supporting Actor or whatever the category it was that they were nominated in, if they so choose. It didn't say they could choose which category they should be nominated in, although that may be inferred.

Regarding nominations, though, if that is the case, can a non-binary person change which category they want to considered in from performance to performance or are they bound to chose one for all consideration in a given year. For example, can someone ask to be nominated for supporting actor for one performance and supporting actress for another? That would give them unfair advantage over their binary competition, wouldn't it?
