The Sikh running for mayor of Hoboken, also mentioned in that article, also won.

Here's my favorite news of the night. You may have seen the story of the disgusting flier that was distributed throughout Edison, NJ (anonymously like a fucking coward), calling for the deportation of two Asian-American candidates running for school board.

http://www.nj.com/middlesex/index.ssf/2 ... group.html

Tonight, both candidates WON the election race.

To whoever sent that out... sorry, shithead.

I think we owe it to ourselves to take a moment to enjoy our wins. For the past calendar year, I have been a Debbie Downer. And I for sure thought the Donna Brazille news was a harbinger of doom for us.

Today, a transgender woman beat the architect of the bathroom bill. What's a great fucking day.

Good news indeed.

Virginia has already picked up 6 Republican state house seats and is leading in 12 others to change the ratio from 66-34 Republicans to 52-48 Democrats, which could be a bell-ringer for 2019 nationwide.

For those who thought there'd never be good news for Democrats again -- who bought into "Donna Brazile is blowing it for us!" over the weekend...

Ralph Northam is winning EASILY in VA. Might be close to double-digits (kudos to Quinnipiac, who had it at 9 in their last poll). The wave is apparently enough to win all three statewide offices, and give the Dems an outside chance at taking control of the House of Delegates -- a goal that appeared several bridges too far a few hours ago. (They've already defeated the architect of an anti-transgender bill...with the winning candidate the first elected transgender!) Go figure: It turns out having a president with an approval in the mid-30s is bad for an incumbent party.

Oh, and Phil Murphy won the NJ governorship, but that was a lay-up, thanks to outgoing Gov. Christie's cataclysmically low approvals.

Now I'll wait for our local results, to see if the write-in campaign against Cy Vance had any impact.

MSNBC is also reporting links between Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Putin owned businesses which could affect how Russian sanctions are done. The information is culled from 7 million documents leaked from a Bermuda law firm.

The very clearly ambiguous wording caught my ear, as well. It could mean, as you say, we've got him nailed, so it's in his interest to cut a deal pronto. It could be a way of saying we have sealed indictments that could turn into charges as soon as we unseal them. Or it could be a way of letting other potential targets know that the case against Flynn is iron-clad, without explicitly mentioning that he's already made a deal.

Whichever of these turns out the case, I have full faith in Mueller playing it the best way possible, and those bumbling amateurs in the White House responding as stupidly as they can. How much damage will be done to the country in the process is the question I'm not quite up to pondering.

While Trump is tweeting and bumbling his way through Asia (today’s he’s playing golf with Abe in Tokyo), Mueller has announced that he has enough to indict Michael Flynn and Flynn Jr. Considering all the times that Trump telegraphed to Flynn to “stay strong,” this seems like it will particularly enrage him while he’s abroad.

The language of the reporting is interesting. Do we think that this is an attempt to squeeze Flynn for more information before out-and-out posting indictments? The consensus after the Manafort/Gates indictments and Papadapolous news was that these would be the next two names to come up.

I love how Mueller works. What an American hero.

The big question remains what will it take to get rid of Trump. As long as he retains his hold on the far right of the Republican party, the majority of Republican lawmakers are going to remain reluctant to act, and if and until the Dems regain control of the Congress, impeachment could remain out of reach.
That all depends on how far things get with the investigation. If there is indisputable evidence that President Trump was involved or knew something and covered it up if others in his administration are caught, then Republicans may be forced into a position where they can't hold off impeachment. But we're a long way off from that point. However, Mueller wouldn't be making these moves if he didn't have more coming up. Stay tuned...

My god, it's hard to know where to look today -- a phantasmagoric World Series, a Kevin Spacey scandal that's no less horrifying for being utterly expectable, and now the first of what seems likely many indictments by Mueller's team.

Manafort & his deputy were relatively expected mid-level fish. But the Papadopolous guilty plea is the shocker from today. He's a very clear link to the entire Russian collusion thing, and he's apparently been cooperating for a LONG time (some reports say since January!). God know what material he's turned over.

It seems a time to echo Churchill, and suggest this may not be the beginning of the end, but it's probably the end of the beginning. It's now game on.
