I just watched Chaplin and I really liked Downey Jr.'s performance, it was very subdued and understated considering it was the portrayal of an actor bigger than the movies themselves. It was great show of faith in Downey's performance on the part of Attenborough to show actual historical clips of Chaplin near the end. The movie itself was merely decent, but his performance was great.

Watch out, Judy Davis is gonna come and get ya!
That must have been one of the last Oscar broadcasts that I watched and I was really pleased that Marisa Tomei won. I didn't think she was the best of the nominees but she was so good in My Cousin Vinny I don't care. She has since proved her worth with some good work, in particular In the Bedroom and The Slums of Beverly Hills.

I'm always happy to see anyone recognise this great performance by a wonderful actress - but how can anyone justify placing it in support? Surely she's as much the film's focus as Mary McDonnell. Its like splitting Thelma from Louise.

OK, that's pretty sound...!

It sounds interesting anyway, I love Julie so I'll have to look out for it.

But then I'd have to include all TV performances and there are a lot more to be considered than just Christe's, which is my favorite of all her work.

...or you could just bend the rules? I admit I haven't seen or heard of the film, but if Christie warrants it I'd include her.

Otherwise, you could move Alfre Woodard to the lead category where she belongs - a wonderful performance that was the heart and soul of that terrific movie.

Fantastic choices - Olivier Olivier is one of the best and least appreciated movies of the 90s, and Rouan's performance (along with those of Gregoire Colin and Marina Golovine) is wonderful. A true original, apparently based on a true event which Holland read about in a newspaper.
