Whether they are behind the camera or in front of it, this is the place to discuss all filmmakers regardless of their role in the filmmaking process.

The early parts of Coal Miner's Daughter has a better feel for very rural back-country America than almost any movie I can think of. You would swear it was made by someone who grew up there. The Up series will be his legacy, but he was a decent journeyman director--the type we don't see too often anymore. I haven't seen it in a long, long time, but I remember thinking his Bond movie was very enjoyable, back at a time when those films were small scale enough that they could crank them out every couple of years. (For reference, Brosnan's four Bond films were released over a seven year period, while Craig's five will have been released over a fifteen year period.)
