Like Ron Leibman, he had his film and TV successes -- multiple Altman films -- but I think of him as a NY theatre man. I saw him play The Fool to Lee J. Cobb's Lear at Lincoln Center when I was in high school. Many years later, saw him in City of Angels. A fine actor, and by all accounts a fine human being.

79 doesn't seem very old to me these days.
