R.I.P. Tobe Hooper

Whether they are behind the camera or in front of it, this is the place to discuss all filmmakers regardless of their role in the filmmaking process.

So...I've never see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It couldn't have been further from my taste back when it first appeared, and the fact that slasher movies have, in the years since, become more chic has never persuaded me from my original "don't need this in my life" position. I guess I have to salute Hooper for having more or less jump-started a genre to greater prominence, but my utter lack of interest in that genre keeps me from caring very much about his career.

The one film of his I did see -- Poltergeist -- is 1) not all that interesting a film and 2) was apparently not really directed by him. So, I really have nothing much to say about him.
