Victoria & Albert (2001) John Erman 7/10
British mini-series with a slightly different perspective than the current theatrical release, The Young Victoria. Victoria Hamilton, who plays the young queen here and Emily Blunt who plays her in the film, bear an uncanny resemblance to one another.
The Woman He Loved (1988) Charles Jarrott 6/10
One of several versions of the 1930s romance of Edward VIII (the Duke of Windsor) and Wallis Simpson (the Duchess of Windsor) leading up to his abdication and the only one made after both their deaths.
Jane Seymour and Anthony Andrews do credible imitations of the pair but Olivia de Havilland, Julie Harris and others are wasted in support.
Against the Wind (1948) Charles Crichton 8/10
Fascinating post-war look back at World War II British espionage, the forerunner of everything from The Guns of Navarone and Operation Crossbow to Army of Shadows. Robert Beatty, Simone Signoret, Jack Warner, Gordon Jackson and James Robertson Justice are among the stars.

I found it to be derivative of The Little Mermaid and a surprisingly small scale effort for Myazaki. I'd much rather watch his better work again then this.Hustler wrote:Wait! Ponyo is a gem! Please, watch it again if you can.Precious Doll wrote:Ponyo (2008) Hayao Miyazaki 4/10

I´m so delighted. !
I´ve seen two recommendable german movies in the context of a weekly german film festival.
1) Hilde (2009) By Kai Wessel A biography of Hildegard Knef, one of Germany's biggest post-war stars 8/10
2) A Year in Winter (2008) by Caroline Link. An intense film with great performances. 8/10

The Pumpkin Eater (1964) Jack Clayton 6/10
I watched this for the first time in years in preparation for the vote in the 1964 Best Actress poll.
Harold Pinter's minimalist screenplay and Clayton's lethargic direction make it difficult to follow unless you completely concentrate but the acting is impeccable, especially Anne Bancroft whose portrayal of a thrice married mother of seven undergoing a nervous breakdown is a lot better than I remembered it.

Fighting - 4/10
It's about... well... fighting. So we have our premise. That being said, there's not much fighting, and the fights that do happen aren't much of anything. Channing Tatum keeps getting work (his best role was in Recognizing Your Saints) and Terrence Howard, along with the rest of the cast, don't accomplish much of anything in terms of convincing acting. There was little-to-no chemistry in the love story but they build it up like it's important to plot and character development, though it's not. So I began making parody trailers in my head for fun.
