From Paris with Love (Pierre Morel, 2010) 3/10
Travolta is amusing and I just love his ''hairstyle''. Apart from that this is the usual brainless action flick set in a foreign location.......although one wouldn't know it was shot in Paris.
Valentine's Day (Garry Marshall, 2010) 1/10
Shocking how dull this film is. None of the characters are engaging enough. Lost interest half way through and gave up before the end.

The Wings of the Dove (Ian Softley) - 8/10
There is a world where November - December of 1997 never happened, where As Good As It Gets, Good Will Hunting, and Titanic are kept away from a plethora of audacious contenders like Boogie Nights, The Ice Storm, Donnie Brasco, and The Wings of the Dove. Because no doubt with the proper push, The Wings of the Dove would register. It has all the hallmarks: a score of Philip Glass-ian intensity, gorgeous cinematography, art direction and costume design, and performances. The screenplay boils Henry James' book down to its essentials but the fine editing always keep the film rich in emotional devastation. Helena Bonham Carter's Kate is required to contradict herself on a scene by scene basis, always changing her motivation, and she does so perfectly. It's a great performance. Alison Elliot appears perfectly cast on the outside, but she's lacking that crucial bit of intoxicating weirdness that would entice. A pretty great film though.

"How's the despair?"
Cairo Time (Ruba Nadda, 2009) 5/10
Had never heard about this film and came across this by chance and picked it up only because I just got back from a holiday in Cairo so I was curious.
Patricia Clarkson, in a daze throughout, plays a woman who arrives in Cairo to meet up with her husband. He is delayed in Gaza so she is on her own and meets up with an ex colleague of her husband, a local (Alexander Siddig). Nothing happens.......she is lonely, they talk, he takes her around the sites, she meets more locals. Slow moving film but memorable for the lovely sounds and sites Cairo has to offer along with a good soundtrack of local songs.
