The Governors Awards ceremony has been cancelled/postponed due to the Omicron variant. Maybe they should just incorporate the Honorary Oscars back into the main ceremony in March.

"Wouldn't exactly applaud"? It would be a surrender to everything that's gone wrong with Hollywood.

It would make me grateful the Honorary's aren't given out on the main show anymore.

That reminds me. I think Kevin Feige is also likewise a strong contender for the Thalberg. They'll probably present that on the broadcast.

Jerry Bruckheimer for the Thalberg. I wouldn't exactly applaud this choice, but it could well happen.

How about Richard Gere?

Add Christopher Lloyd to the list, too!

I have rewatched Blade Runner again today and it’s such an amazing masterpiece. Ridley Scott may have some turds along the way but after helming such films as Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, Thelma & Louise, Black Hawk Down or The Martian he would be a very deserving honorary winner.

I'm also surprised that there hasn't been a bigger push for Harrison Ford to receive an honorary Oscar. He seems like a ripe candidate, but maybe people are just holding on to hope that he will win a competitive one.
They've been rather reluctant to nominate him -- only once in his 5 decade career -- so it would have to be a really Oscar-bait part if they're still holding out for that reason.

I'd like to add Billy Crystal to the list. He's given several popular, even well-reviewed performances over the years, has a long history in both film and television as an actor and a writer. He hosted the awards telecast 9 times, to great acclaim, in addition to his humanitarian work.

Jane Alexander would be a very pleasant honoree...

These are some great lists with some wonderful names.

A few that I would add:
Ned Beatty
Danny DeVito (maybe a Thalberg)
Danny Glover
Samuel L. Jackson
Frank Oz
Martin Sheen
Sigourney Weaver

For some of the artisans:
Caleb Deschanel
Philip Glass
Bob Mackie

I'm also surprised that there hasn't been a bigger push for Harrison Ford to receive an honorary Oscar. He seems like a ripe candidate, but maybe people are just holding on to hope that he will win a competitive one.

I also thought that Sean Penn might get the Hersholt this year for his work with COVID testing... maybe next year.

Honorary Oscars

Post by anonymous1980 »

Surely with more and more people getting vaccinated, the Governor's Awards will push through this year and with that, I think we have to speculate and talk about who's gonna get the Honorary Awards this year: Honorary Oscars, possibly also the Jean Hersholt and the Thalberg.

Actors:
Jean-Paul Belmondo
James Caan
Claudia Cardinale
Alain Delon
Catherine Deneuve
James Hong
Norman Lloyd
Tatsuya Nakadai
Kim Novak
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Sylvester Stallone
Russ Tamblyn
Jean-Louis Trintignant
Liv Ullman

Directors:
Kenneth Anger
John Carpenter
David Cronenberg
Brian De Palma
Peter Greenaway
Michael Haneke
Werner Herzog
Takeshi Kitano
Mike Leigh
Elaine May
Ridley Scott
John Waters

Artisans:
Tak Fujimoto

I couldn't think of any more artisans. Perhaps someone can throw in some names. Surely, I would get one or two of these correct.
