While for the first time ever, everything in contention has been available at our fingertips for viewing before the Oscars, life still has a way of intervening in our ability to watch everything. Nevertheless, I did force myself to watch as much as I could. I did not see any of the animated features aside from Soul which I would have voted for like actual Oscars who haven't seen anything else. The only effects nominee I saw I hated, so I would have abstained from voting for that one. I also have yet to see the three newly available international feature nominees but doubt I would vote for any of them over the two front-runners, which I have seen.

Leading Actor: Riz Ahmed
Leading Actress: Carey Mulligan
Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya (or Leslie Odom, Jr.)
Supporting Actress: Yuh-jung Young
Director: Chloe Zhao
Adapted Screenplay: The Father
Original Screenplay: Minari (or Sound of Metal, though Promising Young Woman would also satisfy me)
Cinematography: Nomadland
Costume Design: Pinocchio
Production Design: Mank
Sound: Sound of Metal
Editing: Sound of Metal
Score: Minari (but front-runner Sound would be a good choice)
Song: Speak Now
Visual Effects: abstain
Makeup and Hairstyling: Pinoccchio
Animated Feature: Soul
International Feature: Another Round (but would love to see a tie with Quo Vadis, Aida?)
Documentary Feature: Collective
Documentary Short: A Love Song for Latasha
Live Short: Feeling Through
Animated Short: If Anything Happens I Love You

This a bit strange, since we do have a Shouldabeens thread, but I have to say that I am disappointed that Pinocchio is not more heavily predicted for a win in makeup. I see other sites that are saying Ma Rainey's Black Bottom will run away with that. Costumes I can understand, since there is support for honoring Ann Roth, but Pinocchio should be the clear front-runner there.

I also wish there was more love for Love & Monsters, which had the most fun with its visual effects.
Tenet had some cool visuals, but it somehow seems like a lazy pick to me.

Your Other Categories Ballot

Post by Mister Tee »

We do this for the weighted best picture ballot, so why not for the other categories? Sorry I didn't think to start this up earlier, but let everyone know what you'd vote for in each category besides best film.

Leading Actor: Anthony Hopkins
(though it would have been Delroy Lindo)
Leading Actress: Carey Mulligan
Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya
Supporting Actress: Amanda Seyfried
Director: Chloe Zhao
Adapted Screenplay: The Father
Original Screenplay: Promising Young Woman
Cinematography: Nomadland
Costume Design: Emma
Production Design: Mank
Sound: Sound of Metal
Editing: The Father
Score: Soul
Song: Speak Now (in a close vote)
Visual Effects: er..uh..The One and Only Ivan? (Really, voting "No")
Makeup and Hairstyling: Pinoccchio
Animated Feature: have to abstain, as Apple TV was a streamer too far for me, so I haven't seen Wolfwalkers
International Feature: Quo Vadis, Aida?
Documentary Feature: Collective
Documentary Short: Do Not Split
Live Short: abstain; haven't seen The Letter Room
Animated Short: Opera
