I would love to see this nomination repeat at Oscars, but I doubt they would ever be that cool. After watching him for years as an affable but unremarkable actor on THE WALKING DEAD, I found Yen's performance in BURNING revelatory. For me, the only reason that movie works is because he makes the slow-burn transition so believable. I want to avoid spoilers, but what he did in that movie felt like a magician pulling off a magic trick. Not a big, showy performance, but still something pretty special.

They aren't the first group to recognize Widows. The film had five citations prior to today. The Satellites nominated it 4 times. It was also nominated in the Los Angeles Online critics nominations.

As I said the other day, a few of the old stand-bys deserve individual threads. Chicago, for some reason, releases nominations today and winners tomorrow. So, here are the nominations -- a mix of consensus/prediction with some artier fare on the edges.

Oh, and, in the proud Siskel/Ebert tradition, a Chicago group is the first to give any notice to Widows.
