Interesting tidbit:

The last five Documentary Oscar winners have also won here; that should bode well for Jane or LA 92

I don't find Molly's Game all that odd a choice -- editors love multiple timeline projects.

The notable omissions are Call Me by Your Name (starting to track the Carol trajectory), The Big Sick, Mudbound, Phantom Thread and The Florida Project. The latter two never struck me as Guild favorites -- they're going to be 5% choices if they make best picture/director. The Big Sick continues a roller-coaster ride, missing easy shots, then making tough ones. Oh, and I guess the idea that The Last Jedi would repeat The Force Awakens' broader tech success is probably hobbled here.

First listing of 'Three Billboards...' as a Comedy? I've thought for some time that embracing it as a dark comedy would be a strong tactic for those promoting it. But with six Golden Globe noms and four SAG noms, they know what they're doing.

I knew that 'Blade Runner: 2049' was in the race. It may be a slow film but Joe Walker is a recent two-time nominee who managed to mimic the tone of the original.

'Molly's Game' is the weirdest listing.
