My success this year can only be credited to perfect blind-guessing in the three shorts categories, where I'd seen nothing. And for resisting most cool-sounding upset possibilities that I briefly entertained. (The big upset in best picture was one I'd NEVER have considered.)

Continuing what I have been doing for the last few years, here is the list of the most-recent-Oscar ceremonies where I have correctly predicted the various categories:

2016:
Direction
Adapted Screenplay
Lead Actor
Lead Actress
Supporting Actor
Supporting Actress
Foreign Language Film
Documentary Feature
Animated Feature
Documentary Short
Animated Short
Original Song
Original Score
Cinematography
Sound Editing
Production Design
Costume Design
Visual Effects

2015:
Original Screenplay
Film Editing
Makeup & Hairstyling

2014:
Live Action Short

2013:
Sound Mixing

2012:
Picture

It is highly ironic that the Best Picture category, the one with by far the most data on which to make a prediction, is the category that has bedeviled me, and many others, the most.

Best Song. The public school reference was a Trump knock.

THE RESULTS!!!

Okay. Here are a few notes:

- NOBODY got Best Picture right.
- 4 people predicted Hacksaw Ridge in Sound Mixing, just missing the double points.
- dws1982, CalWilliam and Greg correctly predicted Fantastic Beasts in Costume Design earning them double points.
- Only criddic3 predicted Hacksaw Ridge in Editing as a runner-up, earning him triple points for that.
- Only flipp525 correctly predicted Suicide Squad for Makeup, also earning him triple points.
- Even though a whole bunch of you tried to predict a "Carrie Fisher-Debbie Reynolds" In Memoriam finale, only Heksagon and CalWilliam correctly predicted Carrie Fisher as a solo, earning them double points.
- NOBODY got the exact empty-handed Best Picture nominees right. The closest was Aceisgreat but for some reason, he thought Jackie was nominated for Best Picture and he therefore lost what could have been a bonus 9 points for that.

So without further ado, here are the results:

Okri = 40 points
Reza, nightwingnova, Sonic Youth & Big Magilla = 42 points
CalWilliam = 44
criddic3 = 45 points
Precious Doll, mlrg, Oscar Guy, Jefforey Smith & flipp525 = 48
Sabin & The Original BJ = 50 points
FilmFan720 = 51 points
anonymous1980 = 53 points
Heksagon, Snick's Guy, dws1982 and Aceisgreat= 54 points
Greg = 57 points

and the winner with a whopping 60 points is...

Mister Tee!!!

P.S. Please let me know if I missed anything or if I made a mistake in my calculations. Thank you!

I know it's not me, but somebody had to get "the most" right or conversely, the least wrong!

I would like a second verification of the number of winners who referenced refugees, diversity, immigrants or Trump. I think the number is 5: The Makeup & Hairstyling winner, Barry Jenkins, the Documentary Short winner, the Zootopia guys and The Salesman. Am I missing something? Correction: 6. Ezra Edelman also mentioned something.

Oh and the official answer to the last person in the In Memoriam was Carrie Fisher. I will not count the Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher together answers because even though they're the last two, the montage ends just with Carrie.

Empty-handed Best Picture nominees are: Lion, Hell or High Water and Hidden Figures.

Winners speeches, etc.: 5

*Taking the rule literally, I'm assuming "Last Person" means final image of person rather than final name displayed. If it's "name displayed", then I'd say Reynolds, but "final image" would have to be Reynolds and Fisher together, I'm guessing.
