Quick mea culpa Reza...I immediately challenged this and made a snide Vegas remark...to which I'd be broke if I were not being facetious...

So glad you were right...the one category where voters considered "best"... with political- or precent-esque concerns notwithstanding...this is of course assuming Blanchett doesn't prevail

I still think the biggest factor in winning a "tribute" award is getting nominated in a weak year, when there's a lack of strong competition.

I think what the Academy looks at when giving a "tribute" Oscar is that the actor's filmography is remarkable and of high quality. Rourke, Stallone, Reynolds, Murray and Eddie Murphy just didn't have that. Bacall is the only "overdue" actor in recent memory who failed to win in spite of her history.

Burt Reynolds
Bill Murray
Mickey Rourke
Sylvester Stallone

People got a little carried away with the narrative and forgot precedent.

So Stallone turned out to be a Bacall/Reynolds rather than a Plummer/Ameche. I think Rylance was excellent in Bridge of Spies--my favorite winner in this category in quite awhile.

Well, I for one, am hugely relieved Stallone didn't win.

On a side note, after spending a career never directing an Oscar winning performance, Steven Spielberg directs two Oscar winning performances in consecutive films. As he is on a roll, could he even get an actress nominated one day?

On another side note, I love that Patricia Arquette keeps showing up with glasses 8)

When will people learn that the Oscar voters are much less interested in comeback performers than the Internet is...
