Yeah - the locked in nature of this supporting category has made it fairly impossible to predict who's a runner-up.

We all know what's gonna happen here, but at least they deserve our quick and final thoughts.

Meryl Streep's 19th nomination is mind-blowing, but anything in the world could make her winning a fourth Oscar for this (refreshing) effort, but isn't it nice seeing her almost every year since 1978?

Keira Knightley is perfectly respectable. Far worst performances have been nominated and won in this category (Zellweger, Hudson...) She is even better than Jennifer Connelly in my opinion. Of course she has no chance.

Emma Stone and Laura Dern are the only possible upsets if we may say that here. The former will have more citations in the future, and the latter is such a pleasure to watch that her winning would be the most wonderful surprise of the night for me, but she's an even darker horse than let's say, Beatrice Straight.

Anyway, good luck for Patricia Arquette in her next projects.
