It's all but a foregone conclusion now that Alfonso Cuaron will take the Oscar for Best Director. Best Picture is still a toss-up between 12 Years a Slave and Gravity. It all depends on how the votes below the top three are dispersed once those films are eliminated.

Best Actor and Supporting Actor front-runners Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto were not in the running for BAFTA. Although McConaughey is not as sure a bet as Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bruce Dern now seem like also-rans for sure. Only Chiwetel Ejoifor seems like a threat now.

Lupta Nyong'o is still the front-runner for the Supporting Actress Oscar as BAFTA's winner Jennifer Lawrence did not win here last year.

I had to double check because I thought Jennifer Lawrence's win odd. She did NOT win BAFTA last year, so they didn't give her a second award this year.

Alright. It's official. 12 Years a Slave is the obligatory Best Picture vote. It's just a chore at this point.

Also, this gives me a tiny bit of hope that Nyong'o won't win either.

If Abdi follows through with an Oscar win, he will be the third non-actor to win Best Supporting Actor after Harold Russell and Haing S. Ngor.
