what is the Criterion message board and are they asking for suggestions or just a list of favorite films? I will try to come up with 250 movies, too, but it will be difficult. Many films are more along the lines of *** and ***1/2 rather than great, four star films. But it'll be worth a try. Edited ...

I disagree with your view of Mississippi Burning. The one major criticism towards the film was characterizing a white FBI man as the good guy in the film. Yet I don't have a problem with Gene Hackman being the "hero" in the film. Sure, they hit us a little heavy at times, but the message ...

In the 1950's or sixties, yes Chris1, that might be true. But in 2003 America, there is no reason to carry on that chip-on-the-shoulder, carry-the-burdon-of-your-ancesters mentality. If a black actor doesn't get a role, but a white actor does, chances are it wasn't necessarily because he is black. ...

A famous person, was it Washington or .. hmm I forget, but he said that you shouldn't just wait around for the good roles. You should seek them out or create them yourselves (like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon did). I mean come on people. This "we have to get Oscar nominations just 'cause we're a...

Schindler's List is just such a monumental acheivment. I saw it when it was out. I was 15 at the time. It was an amazing experience. Having seen it a couple of times since then, I can honestly say that it loses none of its potent power.

oops, voted the wrong way; I voted the best for Schindler's List, not worst! The English Patient may be the worst, simply because it drags on much longer than necessary (although I admired much of it) and Rain Man was entertaining but not better than Mississippi Burning.

Tandy, Foster and McDormand got my votes for best actress, with the edge to McDormand for an absolutely charming and original performance. Yes 1994 was a disappointing year for this category. But after seeing the formulaic The Client again, I have to say that Sarandon (and co-star Renfro) gave a he...

Amazingly, Hopkins is the only one to also win a coinciding Criddic Award! Hoffman was not in contention, since I started my awards the following year. [if I ever do make a list for past awards, which may be too silly, he might be a nominee]
