Pity nobody mentions / remembers Jodie Foster's superb supporting performance in Stealing Home. This is the film and category she should have won the Oscar for, thus leaving the way open for Glenn Close to win for Dangerous Liaisons.

But both Victor Bannerji and John Lone were nowhere close to the other five actors who were nominated the years they were contenders for Passage and Emperor.

My take on the 1940 Best Actress race - Both Hepburn and Roz cancell each other out for their comic performances and Joan Fontaine wins for her dramatic turn in Rebecca!

I have always thought Straight's win was richly deserved. The size of her role never bothered me. She brings such anguish to that one scene where she berates Holden. Not unlike a similar scene between Miranda Richardson and Jeremy Irons in Damage - for which Richardson was nominated. Edited By Big ...

Voted for Irons but would have voted a tie for Irons and Hopkins.

I voted for Jack but in retrospect I prefer his performance in Chinatown to the one in Cuckoo's Nest. Richard Dreyfuss' performance in The Goodbye Girl is the one I should have chosen instead. A marvellously sly performance with great comic timing.

Milland wins for me by a mile. Am not too fond of any of the other winners on this list.

My vote went for Jessica Lange's sexy and flamboyant performance in Blue Sky.

Lange's win for this film makes me optimistic that maybe Diane Lane WILL win this year for Unfaithful. You don't have to give an in-your-face performance in an in-your-face film to win.

An easy choice for me : The great Miss Hepburn.

Although I'm also very fond of the performances on the list by Glenda Jackson (both her wins), Barbra Streisand and Faye Dunaway.
