Harden...for this and Mystic River. Though Judi Dench is a close second, and I think Jennifer Connelly deserves some kind of recognition for making A Beautiful Mind watchable at least one time. Oh right, the Oscar.

Omigod, SIX VOTES for poor Nikki Kidman and only ONE for Halle Berry (my own??)?! You people suck. Even if you absolutely hated her in The Hours, Kidman should get a pass if only for being a much better actress than Berry in every other way.

My god! An embarrassment of riches! The Hours is a stinker and Kidman's role borders on supporting, but her fascinating performance is actually one of the best things in the film, even if she didn't deserve to win over Julianne Moore. Julia Roberts is ridiculous in the ridiculous Erin Brockovich, b...

Helen Mirren and Hillary Swank make up for an otherwise disappointing decade. But for me, Swank's searing performance in Boys Don't Cry is one of the best acting choices the Academy has ever made, narrowly beating out the always wonderful Mirren.

Wow. I know he's hated on this board but I can't believe you guys are seriously choosing Benigni over the nothingness Crowe does in the artless Gladiator. I mean, it's not even close for me -- Russell fucking Crowe.

Ratatouille (shut up) though I love Spirited Away, and Wallace and Gromit is a fine winner too. The rest are forgettable.

Daniel Day-Lewis just narrowly edges out Sean Penn for me. Though if it was Dead Man Walking, Penn would win easily. I'm fine with Benigni, Washington, Brody and Whitaker even though I would have voted for McKellan, Wilkinson, Day-Lewis and Gosling in their respective years. It's a pity Hoffman won...

Almodovar. Easily. The only travesty is that I couldn't vote for Talk to Her or Volver.

And wow, another decade where the Foreign Film list is more distinguished than the Best Picture list.

I know Life is Beautiful will probably run away with it on this board, but that would be totally unfair. The Sea Inside for me.

Who the hell voted for Eastwood???

EDIT: Sorry FilmFan. I was so horrified, I didn't see you already asked this question. Anyway, it's worth asking again.

I'd love to vote for Speilberg here, who isn't anywhere in the same category as Polanski, Scorsese, Eastwood or the Coens. But there's no denying the awful stiltedness of Sam Mendes and the just plain awfulness of Ron Howard.

Howard wins with a large lead.

Jews will never vote for Obama, if he is the nominee the jews who traditionnally vote democrat will switch to Mccain. What are you basing this on? His recent comments have been just as nauseatingly pro-Israel as any other Democratic candidate. And he won the vote (and had the full support) of the l...

Oh NIKKI . Dude, I totally get your frustration with American politics -- and especially with the Democrats -- but let's keep some perspective please. Of course there's no fundamental difference between the two parties and of course they're both going to protect capitalism, white privilege and patr...

I totally don't agree with all of her optimism and fawning over Obama but I think this is an important window into why we can expect young voters to turn out for him in November (not a validation of his merits, mind you).
