Re: Golden Globe Nominations
Two things, though. It was harder to find the winners of all of those awards in 1993 (or 1975), and they didn't all affect the Oscar race the way that they do now. Throughout the 90s, I was following the Oscars pretty religiously, and getting my hands on as much info as my teenage self could, and I ...

Re: R.I.P. Peter Bogdanovich
Rewatched What's Up, Doc? -- my favorite film of all time -- for the gazillionth time last night in honor of him. A great filmmaker who still doesn't quite get his due. I caught the black and white version of Nickelodeon last year and had a real blast with it; not a masterpiece, but much better than...

Re: The Documentaries
It'll be interesting how the Covid documentaries play. I think In the Same Breath is the better film, but The First Wave is a more emotional experience and could play to viewers a little more.
I have a hunch neither will be nominated.

Re: 2021 Baseball Post-Season
I too am happy to see these wonderful players all succeed in the post-season (and one reason I am rooting for the Giants is merely my family's love of Kris Bryant). But man, what a brutal season. My love for the Ricketts is close to non-existent as it is, but the way that this team went from a stron...

Thanks for rubbing it in! Just the icing on the cake of a devastating season to be a Cubs fan....Mister Tee wrote:By the way, Kris Bryant joins Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber in having hit home runs so far in the post-season. I presume the Cubs front office is taking pride in this.

Re: 93rd Oscars Trivia
McDormand is in a truly select group of 4 women who've fronted a best picture winner with a winning lead performance without a male co-star nominated alongside -- Luise Rainer '36, Shirley MacLaine '83, Gwyneth Paltrow '98, and now McDormand. Great post, Tee. Yes, we should have noticed this back t...

Re: Gender Neutral Oscar Acting Categories?
The Jeff Awards (Chicago's biggest theatre awards...our Tony's), made this change about 5 years ago. They merely doubled the number of nominees and have two winners every year. Overall, the parity in the categories has been fairly equal. Female and male nominees have been roughly 5:5 every year, alt...

Re: The Green Knight reviews
Well, in this day and age, so much rides on opening weekend, and opening weekends depend on long-established pre-hype. The fact that we're only hearing about this three days before its wide release suggests the studio has no confidence in it, and that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The days wh...

Sabin I'm very happy for you that your grandmother survived the Holocaust. And for all the others who survived. But frankly they are no different to every person who survives any kind of oppression or attack which is meant to harm, maim or kill. Today there are most probably many grandmothers who s...
