Re: WGA Predictions

There’s no reason to think Promising Young Woman won’t win original screenplay. It’s got all the right nominations (e.g. editing), indicating broad support.

Mank was always intended to be a Netflix-only film. Chicago 7, on the other hand, was sold to Netflix once theatrical was a non-starter.

Did an accountant leak this info? I didn't know the Academy disclosed anything about the voting.

Re: Best Screenplay 2019

I will say, as much as I am a non-fan of Jojo Rabbit as a movie, some people consider Caging Skies , the novel it's based on, one of the great novels published since 2000. It's on my to-read list. I read that Waititi didn't finish the book, so the film has little to do with it. I like his previous ...

Re: 2020 Potential Best Supporting Actress Nominees

Jodie Foster has 2 Oscars on the shelf and seems to be semi-retired. You can’t really think it wouldn’t do more for Seyfried’s career. (And I hate they’d be validating the HFPA by following their lead.)

Re: 2020 Potential Best Supporting Actress Nominees

All I want is an Amanda Seyfried nomination. But why give someone a much-deserved career boost when you can give Jodie Foster a pointless nomination she doesn’t even need? I’m preemptively depressed.

Re: DGA NOMINATIONS (No arguments)

I think Fennell will be replaced by either Zeller or Vinterberg (if the BAFTA nominations are any indication). Which they shouldn't be. Another Round is popular but, unlike Pawel Pawlikowski in 2018, Vinterberg doesn't have an Amazon campaigning for him. And until/unless The Father receives major O...

Re: BAFTA stuff.

Interesting picks but no need to dissect the Oscar implications. How in the world does The Mauritanian make a 5-slot best-film race? (Have not seen it. It just seems tremendously uninteresting.) Four out their six best actress nominees will not be Oscar-nominated. (Alfre Woodard was eligible last ye...

Re: Best Screenplay 2019

Greta Gerwig's loss here (Taika Waititi is super-fun at parties!) is the most disappointed in the Academy I'll ever be.

Really hoping Andra Day was a fluke. I can’t stand a third straight singer biopic Oscar winner.

No. iTunes doesn’t even have a placeholder for it, so I don’t know when it can be rented.

I know all that matters is that AMPAS members can see it, but how strong can the prospects be for a film that practically doesn’t exist yet?

Re: Critic's Choice Awards

Thank you, Sabin , for talking sense into me. I feel good about Mulligan again. I had thought Viola Davis was going to win, just so we’d get to see her eulogize Chadwick Boseman with the eyes of the world on her. Now that Boseman’s widow has proved herself equal to the task, that reason to vote for ...

Re: Critic's Choice Awards

But they're really in a bind for best actress. I think they were probably already having some difficulty deciding between Mulligan and McDormand, but leaning Mulligan -- till last Sunday, when Day unexpectedly entered the picture. What to do? -- try and get on board with Day? But she's not availabl...

Lol, I had more understanding re: Janney's win, but I spent that entire season going "But Laurie Metcalf is right there!!!! Janney needs to give some of her emmys up anyway!!!!” Laurie Metcalf brought me to tears. Allison Janney wore a bird as an accessory and gave the same sort of monstrous-m...

Like Allison Janney, he has worked with everyone and people like him.
