C'mon people...it's a great box office figure but it's not THAT great. Take into account inflation, and then tell me what records TDK is actually breaking...

James Berardinelli 4 out of 4 Consequences. In real life, these ramifications emanate from every action like ripples from a stone thrown into a pond. Often in movies, especially those that feature characters who don't play by the rules, such penalties are suspended. However, in Christopher Nolan's ...

I've posted occasionally on and off since 97. Do you guys remember Alex Fung? I wonder what happened to him?

That doesn't surprise me, Damien. In some recent interviews, the shakiness and dark glasses kind of clued me in. BTW, where is Jake Gyllenhaal? Of all the different celebrities who've weighed in on the tragedy, he is conspicuously absent in all this. He is appropriately and tastefully absent in all...

It's strange you know...I live in Ledger's home town and there really is a sense of real loss out in the streets today. People at work this morning are just shaking their heads in disbelief..especially a few people who know Heath's parents and family.

Greatest wishes: Alexandre Desplat gets a nomination for the score of Lust, Caution (hell, throw in picture, director, actress and cinematography for that remarkable film.) Cate Blanchett does receiving a well deserved supporting actress nod. Greatest Fears: Juno for picture. Cate Blanchett receivi...

But Four Months, Three Weeks, Two Days - not, I admit, an Oscar-friendly movie - should have been at least nominated. It's very good. I was very surprised by that exclusion, as well, Marco, because I thought that the year MIGHT go by without a film like this: it is, after not all, not a Holocaust o...

Also, I have a difficult time seeing Penn as the odd-man-out director, which it seems like he would likely be if Juno nabbed the Best Picture spot. Typically the odd-man-out director is a choice who hasn't been cited by the DGA: Daldry, Lynch, Almodóvar, Meirelles, Leigh, Greengrass. The last four ...

I fail to see why there is a heightened feeling that these wins (particularly The Diving Bell and The Butterfly and Sweeny Tood) will enhance the prospect of nominations come Oscar time. Weren't the ballots due in before the Globe ceremony? How are these wins going to affect the chances of, say, TD...

And when you look at those four Best Pictures: The Aviator, Brokeback Mountain, Babel, Atonement and compare with the Academy: Million Dollar Baby, Crash, The Departed and for argument's sake No Country for Old Men , you might say they have become what The Oscars used to be. This is a great point a...
